Journalism means a lifetime of learning and a constantly open, unbiased mind.
While I greatly respect investigative reporters and breaking news journalists, I've always tended toward the softer side of the business—the human side. Being able to share one person's story with a world of others who can relate, laugh, emulate, or learn to tolerate has always been important to me. I believe everyone has a story worth 15 minutes, yet so often we go through life without taking the time to listen for them. Even more important in today's world is the opportunity to hear the stories of people unlike us, from another culture, another part of the world, or another type of upbringing. With the help of Rated Rookie creator Josh Bernstein, I've developed these beliefs into "Fierce Detachments."
For me an open mind also leads to an open heart and mouth. My columns often share large chunks of topics on which I've been reflecting personally, and have everything to do with the state of life and living in today's world. Since youth, we are taught to raise our hand when we have something to share outloud. This is me raising my hand.
